On January 25, 2020 twelve students from the Tomaro Secondary school gathered at DSF’s office for its very first book club meeting. Special guest hosts, Chimdinma Onwukwe, director of The Afro Reader and Jessica Tagbare, author of our first book, “Wings of Night Sky”, led our students in a very lively book discussion. Jessica shared her experiences as a young child and explained how she took the challenges she faced and turned them into telling stories. Students shared their own challenges as well and lessons they learned from Jessica’s book. Chimamada showed a documentary about a young girl from India who succeeded against all odds in chasing her dream. The DSF team then led a discussion about the importance of hard work and diligence in making dreams become a reality.  At the close of the session, two students, Atama Philemnon and Denapo Ebenezer were awarded a copy of Jessica’s book and a writing notebook for writing the best essay. Essay were prepared in advance by all students. Everyone, adults and students alike are looking forward to the next book club.
